The goal of VILLINTEL was to utilize the comprehensive reach of social media in order to locate places in the United States with particularly high crime rates and share that with our users. Areas with high crimes rates were identified through tweets in local areas when searched for keywords regarding safety and crime. Our algorithm is unique in that the data is further stratified by time, keeping our information relevant and adaptable to how fast our world is changing. VILLINTEL is especially important due to the expansion of social media exposure, and how it can be an effective and efficient tool to help keep us safe.
